So, I was watching the RAW after Chamber. When CM Punk came out to start the show with his similar shooting-style promo. Called some names out and addressed his current feud and WrestleMania opponent, Seth Rollins. Setting up a match in the process against him at the next week's episode of RAW. Where we saw Roman interfere and beat both of the superstars down. Now, we know where this feud is heading and what it could possibly be about in the end.
Now, here begins my thought of CM Punk headlining the next year's Mania against John Cena.
Now, let's rewind back a little to 2023. CM Punk came back to WWE and started marching towards his WrestleMania dream. When it took a slight detour because of his tricep injury. However, a lot of speculations suggest that the initial winner of the 2024 Royal Rumble was supposed to be CM Punk, and later it got changed to Cody Rhodes because of his injury.
However, there is much evidence that suggests Cody as the ultimate winner of the 2024 Royal Rumble. Setting him up for the redemption arc against Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins. Eventually went to face Roman Reigns, but speculations do suggest that WWE changed the plans at the last moment as the matchup between The Rock & Roman was receiving heavy backlash from fans.
Anyway, that's a story of the past. Which makes us come to our second city saint's story. His story of headlining Mania. His dream of main eventing Mania has been pending since his first run with the copy. Even though drawing more than Cena at the time didn't ensure his WrestleMania main event. And the lack of appreciation for the work load got to him. Which made him quit the very thing he loved the most.
Fast forward to ten years: CM Punk is again at the top of the chain. One of the top 5 merch sellers and a draw give him enough influence to have him headline the mania. So, what's stopping us? We know it's not just that he wants to headline the mania, but he wants to win the gold in doing so as well.
And, in the shoot against John Cena and The Rock, CM Punk did mention facing him along the lines at some point later this year. What if WWE manages to stretch John's timeline for just 4 months? Cena already missed 3 months of work this year due to his shooting dates. Could it be possible that Cena and Punk main-event the next year's Mania, where CM Punk finally wins and with that Cena retires?
Now I have a solid reason to believe this. If cards are dealt right, it could happen. We all know how Cena and Rock previously hijacked two back-to-back Manias in a row. And, in doing so, deprived CM Punk of getting his much-deserved match. CM Punk in his multiple shoots has blamed Dwayne for taking his spot. And, truth be told, we all as fans felt that.
CM Punk can be regarded as the guy who delivered yet never got what he truly deserves. CM Punk in his current run is already looking pretty solid as he's having bangers after bangers. His drawing power is like always. I know not always all the wishes can be fulfilled, but we have a story right there, that's written in the stars!
For me it should be like CM Punk wins the Royal Rumble of 2026 and goes against the corporate Cena and Rock for the one last time. Since we already know that Rock probably will be facing Roman next year. It could very well be the retirement for the ages to remember.
Now that's a story everybody would love to see. Sure, some will be pissed, as the new stars would not get that much attention because of this. But we, as fans, believe that every superstar gets his day in wrestling.
