The Road to Wrestlemania 40 has begun and CM Punk Lost the Royal Rumble Match! along with 28 others.
It sucks to be CM Punk in WWE when every time you get handed the short end of the stick.
The much-awaited hiatus of Phil Brooks ended last year when he returned to the stage of WWE after 10 long years during the event of Survivor Series.
Ever since his return, the speculations have been that he's here to finish the story that he started 12 years ago.
CM Punk feuding against the corporates in WWE could arguably be the best storyline of the past decade which couldn't see the end.
CM always wanted to main event WrestleMania, but sadly when he was on the precipice of making his dream a reality, entered Rock and Cena.
Two years in a row CM Punk even with the huge star power supporting him had to wait to get his chance on the grandest stage.
That's when the year 2014 came and when everyone thought that possibly could be the year when CM lived his childhood dream, he was robbed yet again.
Almost everything that was happening in a few years, the real-life feud with Paul Levesque, with the corporate, and the storyline made it difficult for CM punk to co-exist.
This led the situation to the worst-case scenario and CM Punk finally had enough and quit the day after the 2014 Royal Rumble.
And the build-up to his grand story came to a sad end.
In the world of wrestling, there's a famous quote "Never Say Never",
Fast forward the story to 10 years, and comes the 2023 Survivor Series. After the main event where we witnessed a heroic comeback of Randy Orton who led the team of Seth, Cody, Jey, and Sammy to Victory.
Then Hits the titrant song "Cult of Personality". It filled the crowd of Chicago with rejoicing as Chicago's dear wrestler came back to wrestling once again.
Since then people have been waiting for CM's in-ring comeback. We witnessed several of his promos every week but no wrestling match. Until it was announced that CM Punk was part of Royal Rumble 2024.
At the end of the tunnel, we all started seeing some light. A light that guarantees a main-event spot for CM Punk.
Sadly, yet again we saw nothing but darkness as the light was never there. Turns out it was just a mirage of our imagination as CM Punk Lost the Rumble Match!
Now as a fan, I was hoping for CM's clear victory cause the odds were in his favor from the very get-go but to our surprise, American Nightmare had other plans.
But the outcome didn't settle well among the fans and bashing began left, right, and center.
Let's discuss the possible reasons why CM Punk Lost Royal Rumble.
1. Lack Of Storyline:
As we all know a good hero needs a great villain and great victory solidifies when the story is marvelous.
CM Punk has been carrying the baggage from the past but it's old news considering this ain't the same decade and is irrelevant.
Since the departure of Punk WWE has created many Underdog stars that fulfilled their dreams.
Whether it's the Kofi-mania, Daniel Bryan's Triumph, Whether it's Big-E's big ending or Sami Zayn's Evolution.
We are witnessing it all but compared to their story of triumph, punk's just seems short.
Before fans are ready to see him again at the main event, his story needs to be added with more substance.
And, I believe this year will mark the Trial of CM Punk and the return of his Heel persona.
2. Cody Rhodes Must Finish the Story:
We are at the peak of wrestling that we can witness in the modern era.
It's been a very long since we have seen a story well-written and with depth. The last one IMO has to be of Daniel Bryan's.
Since then stories have come and gone but nothing seems to have the much-needed depth in it except the Rhodes journey to the gold.
Cody Rhodes must fulfill his father's dream of getting the Main Title in the WWE.
Cody has proved in the ring, on the mic, with the skills that he is the current best of wrestling in its entirety.
Now you can also argue that CM Punk also has depth in it and I would say yes he has but he needs to cover some ground before he can hop onto the cycle of relevancy again.
Cody Rhodes never left wrestling. In the hopes of getting better, he left WWE. Conquered the Independent scene in wrestling.
The guy who was once buried in a Stardust character came back as The American Nightmare.
He shall finish the story that his father could not and bring the gold to the Rhodes family.
3. Spoilers:
Punk looked a bit cynical as if he was teasing a character change or a development of the heel persona.
Rock is not going to be this year's mania as an opponent for Roman Reigns as it's very clear that Cody wants the Reign of Glory for himself.
CM Punk vs Seth Rollins seems to be a great story as many times in promos Seth Rollins has indicated that he hates punk.
With him already having animosity among each other, seems like it could be the possible outcome.
A new character if unlocked by Punk could lead to many stories and outcomes as the road progresses.
As of now, my mind is like you guys, puzzled by the thought of what could happen next.
Hopefully, whatever it will be it's going to be glorious.
